The family of Ms. Namitra Bwala, a student at Lead British International School in Gwarinpa, Abuja, has taken decisive legal action against the institution following a disturbing incident of bullying captured in a viral video.

In a civil suit filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, the family is seeking   justice for the trauma and negligence their daughter endured while under the care of the school.

The lawsuit, which seeks damages totaling N500 million and a public apology published in two national dailies, underscores the seriousness with which they view the school’s failure to provide a safe and conducive learning environment.

The viral video, which circulated widely on social media platforms, captured the distressing scene of Ms. Bwala being subjected to bullying by her fellow students.

The family contends that the school’s inability to prevent the assault, promptly notify her parents, and conduct a thorough investigation until the video gained widespread attention on social media amounts to negligence on the part of the institution.

The legal action reflects the family’s determination to hold the school accountable for its failure to fulfill its duty of care towards its students.

By seeking substantial damages and a public apology, they aim to bring attention to the urgent need for schools to implement robust measures to prevent bullying and ensure the safety and well-being of all students.

In a statement issued by the family’s legal representatives, they expressed hope that the lawsuit would serve as a catalyst for meaningful change within the school and the education system at large.

They emphasized the importance of implementing stringent policies and protocols to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future and to foster a culture of respect and inclusion within educational institutions.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that the lawsuit sends a powerful message to schools across the country about the legal repercussions of failing to address instances of bullying and neglecting the welfare of students.
