    Student-Pilot, instructor stable after crash-landing in Ilorin

    The instructor and student of Ilorin International Aviation College whose training aircraft were involved in a crash-land incident on Friday are in stable condition.

    Daily Trust reports that the training aircraft operated by the Ilorin International Aviation College (IAC), Ilorin, Kwara State, on Friday crash-landed.

    The Management of the college said it received with shock the incident of crash-landing involving one of its Diamond Training Aircraft with registration no: BNI at General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport, Ilorin.

    “To the Glory of God the Almighty, the Flight Instructor and the Student on board are presently receiving treatment at the hospital. Both are stable and responding to treatment,” the school said.

    Findings revealed that the incident occurred on Friday evening on approach at the Runway 05 of the Ilorin International Airport.

    The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) which also confirmed the incident in a statement said it has commenced an investigation into the incident.
    According to a statement by Mrs Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, Director, Public Affairs and Family Assistance, the incident happened at 17:28 local time during a simulated instrument approach on Runway 05 at Ilorin International Airport.

    She said the aircraft. with two occupants on board, veered off the runway and came to a stop on the grass verge.

    “Both sustained serious injuries and were swiftly evacuated to a medical facility, coordinated by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA),” she said.

    The bureau stated that its Go-Team is currently preparing to depart from Abuja to Ilorin to conduct on-site investigations.

    “The team will secure the site, collect physical evidence, interview witnesses, and retrieve operational data to establish the cause and contributing factors of the incident,” the statement said.

    Speaking on the incident, the Director General of the NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., said: “Our thoughts are with the injured, and we commend the swift medical and emergency response. Now, our focus is on understanding exactly what went wrong. Every investigation is an opportunity to improve safety. We are deploying our team to Ilorin to ensure that no detail is overlooked.”

    The Bureau urged the public and media to avoid speculation and to await verified updates.

    NSIB said it remains committed to ensuring a thorough, independent, and professional investigation that supports ongoing efforts to enhance aviation safety in Nigeria.
