The Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Delta State Chapter, Chief Goodluck Ofobruku, has said, the subsidy was a ploy for the government to raise funds to manage their over-bloated government while the common masses paid the cost.

The chairman gave the revelation during an interview with journalists at Asaba on the reason why the NLC suspected their planned strike action that was slated to be held on Tuesday.

He said the planned strike was suspended when the federal government became reasonable and constituted a negotiating team to meet with them.

He said that there was nothing like subsidy in the first place, that the government was just using that money to enrich some of their friends.

He maintained that NLC has confronted the government to provide details of companies whom they paid the subsidy monies and the amount being paid to these companies and answers are not provided.

According to him, “subsidy is just a gimmick for government to raise funds to manage their over bloated government, the common masses paid the cost”.

He added, ” There may not be subsidies anywhere, people just want to increase the money so that they can run expensive government and enrich their friends and need money to do politics.

He continued “Anytime they are looking for money, they say our fuel is the least in West Africa, people are smuggling it out of the country, so let us jack it up”

He advised Nigerians to stand up for their rights, that power belongs to them.
