Sultan Condemns Plateau Killings, Urges Government To Enhance Security Measures

In response to the tragic Christmas Eve killings in 20 communities across Plateau State, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, criticized security agencies for their failure in intelligence gathering.

Expressing dismay over the loss of over 100 lives, the Sultan called for increased proactivity in security measures, emphasizing that bandits and terrorists often outpace current efforts.

Speaking at the closing of the 80th National Islamic Vacation Course in Bauchi, the Sultan urged the government and security agencies to strengthen their intelligence gathering techniques, asserting that preemptive action is crucial to preventing such heinous crimes.

“We have problems of insecurity. Why do we keep on having these clashes and deaths caused by ourselves?” questioned the Sultan, highlighting recent incidents in Plateau and Kaduna.

He called for accountability, urging governments to be more proactive and questioning the efficacy of intelligence gathering mechanisms.

Warning against politicizing insecurity, the Sultan emphasized the need for unity in addressing the challenges faced by the nation.

Regardless of religious affiliations, he stressed that the core issue lies in leadership and called for confidence in the authorities to bring about positive change.

“As Muslims, we believe in the Almighty Allah, but we must also put pressure on our leaders to do the right thing,” the Sultan remarked.

He encouraged citizens to view leadership as an opportunity to collectively build a better country, acknowledging the existing challenges but emphasizing the importance of facing them head-on.

The Sultan urged citizens to combine prayers with active engagement in holding leaders accountable, emphasizing the collective responsibility of creating a more secure and prosperous nation.
