The Supreme Court has shifted hearing in a suit filed by the Kogi State Government against the Federal Government, challenging the powers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to probe state government finances.
The suit has been adjourned to October 22.
Justice Uwani Abba-Aji fixed the date on Tuesday after taking arguments from Attorneys General of about 15 other states who have joined Kogi State in the legal battle against the Federal Government.
At Tuesday’s proceedings, the apex court granted the request of Benue, Niger, Katsina, Oyo, Ondo, Cross River, Enugu and Jigawa among others to be made parties to the suit as co-plaintiff with Kogi.
Justice Abba-Aji dismissed the separate originating summons filed by other states and directed them to consolidate with Kogi State Government’s originating summons.
Kogi State is challenging the powers of EFCC and the Independent Corrupt and other Related Offences Commission, ICPC.
