In a shocking revelation, 26-year-old Franklin Akinyosuyi has admitted to bathing with a human head for an entire month, all in an attempt to enhance patronage for his struggling business.
The suspect has been apprehended by authorities in Ondo town, the headquarters of Ondo West local government area, Ondo State.
The arrest was carried out by operatives of the anti-crime section attached to the Funmbi-Fagun Police Station.
The suspect confessed to authorities that he embarked on the bizarre ritual of bathing with a human head over the course of a month with the intention of improving his business prospects.
His alleged motive was to boost patronage to counteract the hardships and low customer turnout that had negatively impacted his business operations.
Akinyosuyi made this startling revelation while being paraded alongside five other suspects at the Ondo State Police Command headquarters in Akure, the state capital.
He went on to disclose that the human head was discovered within his rented apartment situated in the Elewuro area of the community.
The suspect distanced his landlord from any involvement in the matter and admitted ownership of all items found in his possession.
The suspect claimed that all the items, including the human head, were procured from a herbalist residing in Ikirun, Ifelodun local government area of Osun State.
He asserted that he had sought the herbalist’s assistance to bolster his photography and boutique business, both of which were suffering from lackluster performance.
Akinyosuyi elaborated, stating, “I am a photographer and I own a boutique as well. It was last year that my uncle took me to a herbalist.
I explained to him that my business wasn’t moving well, so he asked me to pay N200,000 to make a concoction for me which I paid within three weeks.
After he was done, he called me to come pick it and that was last year in November. He directed that I should be bathing with the human head every Thursday at exactly 1 a.m. I used it for a month but didn’t see any difference in my business.”
The suspect’s intentions were to render the ritual effective, but he failed to witness any positive results, prompting him to request a refund from the herbalist.
He disclosed that he tried to dispose of the human head but was thwarted when his landlord’s children stumbled upon it and alerted their father, leading to the involvement of law enforcement.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, provided details on the case, explaining that Franklin Akinyosoye was reported for Unlawful Possession of a Human Head on August 6, 2023.
The discovery was made by the suspect’s landlord, who uncovered the human skull within a bag kept in the compound. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Oyegoke Dare, an evangelist, and Oyelade Sarafa, an herbalist, who were involved in procuring the skull and other fetish materials.
The police are currently seeking two other suspects associated with the case.
In another disturbing incident, a 47-year-old football coach named Bankole Oginni was arrested for allegedly murdering his ex-lover with scalding water in Akure, the state capital.
The victim’s body was discovered with signs of violence, and the suspect claimed that he resorted to such heinous actions after the victim collapsed in his presence.
As investigations unfold, both cases serve as harrowing reminders of the depths individuals may sink to in their pursuit of personal gain and power.
