At least 40 children have tragically lost their lives due to a suspected measles outbreak in Adamawa State, Northeast Nigeria.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the outbreak, which has ravaged the Mubi North and Gombi local government areas, has left communities reeling in grief.
Sources within the state’s Primary Healthcare Development Agency revealed that 23 deaths occurred in Mubi, while 19 were reported in Gombi.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source disclosed, “So far, there are over 200 infected children; out of which 23 victims have been recorded in Mubi and 19 in Gombi.”
Disturbingly, there’s also a suspected polio case emerging in Gombi, exacerbating the health crisis in the region.
Responding to the dual outbreaks, medical teams have been swiftly deployed to the affected communities.
Health Commissioner Felix Tangwami confirmed the outbreak, assuring that further details, including mortality rates, would be provided in a press briefing scheduled for tomorrow and to be addressed by the deputy governor.
