The Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) has unveiled the logo for its upcoming National Conference, Eko 2025, set to take place from February 19-22, 2025, in Lagos.
The announcement was made at a press conference held on January 17, 2025, where Otunba Bolaji Amusan, JP, Global President of TAMPAN, emphasized the significance of the event and its potential to address national challenges through the arts.
Amusan described TAMPAN as the largest and fastest-growing association within Nigeria’s creative industry, adding that it represents a diverse range of professionals from across the entertainment sector.
The global president spoke in the presence of
National Secretary: Sunday Alabi Osibata
Chairman, Eko 2025: Alhaji Akeem Alimi ( Ajala Jalingo),Governor, Ogun: Owolabi Ajasa
Governor, Lagos: Dele Ayobiojo, Governor, Ondo: Adeyemi Aiyedatiwa and Governor, Ekiti: Sunkami Dada
He said the association has expanded its reach globally, with active chapters in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Ghana, and the Republic of Benin, among others.
Amusan said the vast network makes TAMPAN a key player in shaping the discourse on the creative sector’s role in Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
He disclosed that the theme of Eko 2025 is centered on “Maximizing the Potentials of Arts and Creativity in Addressing National Challenges.”
According to OAmusan, Nigeria is grappling with several challenges including economic instability, high unemployment rates, inadequate infrastructure, and social inequality.
He argued that, at a time when other sectors have failed to provide sustainable solutions, the creative industry could play a pivotal role in addressing these issues.
“Now is the time to leverage the immense potential of Nigeria’s creative industry to diversify the economy and create jobs,” Amusan stated, highlighting how the motion picture and music sectors alone contributed approximately ₦154 billion (about $197.6 million) to Nigeria’s GDP in 2023.
He also cited Netflix’s significant impact on the industry, with the streaming giant supporting over 5,000 jobs and investing more than $23 million in Nigerian film production.
Amusan pointed out that the Nigerian film industry, also known as Nollywood, has shown tremendous growth. Between 2021 and 2023, the Nigerian box office generated over ₦19 billion in revenue, with year-on-year increases in earnings, demonstrating the sector’s capacity for economic contribution.
He projected that, with the right investments, the creative sector could generate an additional 2.7 million jobs within the next 4-5 years, providing much-needed employment for Nigeria’s youthful population.
Amusan said the upcoming conference, which will be held in Lagos, will provide a platform for thought leaders, industry professionals, and government stakeholders to explore the role of the arts in national development.
He said participants will engage in conversations on how creativity can contribute to solving Nigeria’s pressing issues, such as unemployment, education deficits, and social unrest.
Amusan also praised Lagos State for its vital role in the growth of Nigeria’s creative industry, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.
“Lagos has significantly impacted the entertainment sector through its policies and support for creative entrepreneurs, leading to job creation and sectoral growth,” he noted.
He said the collaboration between TAMPAN and the Lagos State Government was instrumental in choosing Lagos as the host city for the conference.
Amusan announced that the Governor of Lagos State would be honoured with the prestigious TAMPAN Pillar of Arts Award, recognizing his unwavering support for the arts.
He added that the Onipokia of Ipokia, a prominent royal figure, will also be celebrated as the Royal Patron of TAMPAN.
According to him, the conference is expected to attract about 8,000 attendees, including industry icons, board members, and other stakeholders, making it one of the largest gatherings of creative professionals in Nigeria.
