The Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ogun State, has honoured one of its distinguished alumni, Mr. Kayode Adewale, with full employment in recognition of his recent achievement as one of the Top 50 Teachers worldwide by the Global Teacher Prize.
This announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwole Banjo, during a courtesy visit by Mr. Adewale to his office.
Prof. Banjo hailed the alumnus as a worthy ambassador of Nigeria, Ogun State, and TASUED, noting that his global recognition has placed the university on the world map.
“Mr. Adewale’s award is a testament to his exemplary dedication to education and society,” Prof. Banjo stated.
“His innovative teaching methods and outstanding contributions have brought pride to this institution, showcasing the caliber of graduates we produce.”
Dubbed the “Nobel Prize of the Teaching Profession,” the Global Teacher Prize celebrates educators who have made transformative contributions to education and society.
Mr. Adewale’s recognition, selected from over 5,000 nominations across 89 countries, underscores his innovative use of digital platforms and indigenous languages to teach mathematics.
As a Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA) Fellow and nominee for the GEMS Education Global Teacher Prize, Mr. Adewale has introduced groundbreaking methods that have revolutionized teaching in Nigeria.
His pioneering use of the Ijebu dialect to teach mathematics has gained widespread acclaim, especially through his instructional videos and digital content creation.
In 2023, he was named the second runner-up for the Best Teacher in Nigeria award, adding to a growing list of accolades that include the Outstanding Youth in Education and ICT Award (2021, 2022), and the Best Senior Secondary School Teacher Award by the Ogun State Government (2022).
Mr. Adewale’s contributions extend beyond the classroom. His initiative, Transformation 5130, has trained over 5,000 teachers in integrating technology into education, with support from educators in six countries.
Locally, he spearheaded the Ogun517GoToSpace programme, which trained over 500 science educators from 517 secondary schools in Ogun State.
This groundbreaking initiative introduced space exploration clubs in all participating schools, making Ogun State the first in Nigeria to implement such a project.
Globally, Mr. Adewale collaborated with 70 educators to translate PhET simulations into multiple languages for the University of Colorado, further cementing his reputation as an international educator.
He has also represented Ogun State and Nigeria on the world stage, participating in prestigious international programs such as the Fulbright Fellowship in the United States and the Limitless Global Educators Programme in Houston, Texas.
TASUED’s decision to offer Mr. Adewale full employment reflects the university’s commitment to celebrating excellence among its alumni.
Before his appointment, Mr. Adewale served as a part-time lecturer at TASUED’s College of Specialized and Professional Education, Department of Counselling Psychology and Educational Foundations.
The institution also acknowledged his ongoing academic pursuit as he works toward his doctorate at TASUED, further showcasing his dedication to lifelong learning.
Beyond his achievements, Mr. Adewale continues to inspire educators and students through his initiatives and his radio program, Emancipate Through Technology, delivered in the Ijebu dialect.
