A taxi driver and his gang have been apprehended by the So-Safe Corps in Ogun State for their alleged involvement in a string of robberies targeting unsuspecting passengers.

The group is accused of dispossessing individuals of their valuables, including money and mobile phones, within the city.

The prime suspect, identified as Kehinde Ogunlate, along with his accomplices, reportedly conducted a series of well-coordinated robberies using the taxi as their modus operandi.

The State Commander of the So-Safe Corps, Soji Ganzallo, confirmed that the arrests were made following a thorough investigation based on gathered intelligence.

In a statement issued by the Corps spokesman, Moruf Yusuf, it was revealed that the arrests took place after officers on routine patrol received information about the activities of a group involved in passenger robberies.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the officers traced the suspects to various locations within Abeokuta, where they had just concluded another robbery.

Kehinde Ogunlate and an individual named Yemi Ayoola were identified as key players in the criminal operation, utilizing the taxi as a means to commit their crimes.

The stolen items were then reportedly handed over to Ogunlate, who had a connection with a certain Olonade Dele, responsible for selling the ill-gotten goods.

Soji Ganzallo stated, “The apprehended suspects confessed that robbing passengers is their profession and after any successful operation, they drive the victims to a safer place for easy escape of their team.”

He further added that Funmilayo Adeosun, one of the gang members, was found to have sold a stolen phone to an untraceable buyer.

Upon arrest, the suspects were identified as Taoreed Adeosun, Funmilayo Adeosun, Ayoola Yemi, Kehinde Ogunlate, and Dele Olonade.

As part of the evidence collected, a taxi, 16 memory cards, and several mobile phones were recovered.

The apprehended suspects and the seized evidence have been handed over to the SWAT office of the Nigeria Police Force in Magbon, Abeokuta, for further investigation and potential prosecution.

The swift action by the So-Safe Corps serves as a reminder of the commitment to maintaining public safety and bringing criminals to justice.
