Tragedy struck in Anambra on Thursday, May 22, when a 19-year-old girl reportedly stabbed her newborn baby and dumped him in a roadside gutter in a desperate attempt to conceal the birth from her family.

The incident, which occurred in a yet-to-be-disclosed community in the state, has sent shockwaves across social media and sparked widespread condemnation after a disturbing video of the aftermath emerged online.

According to eyewitness accounts shared by Facebook user Chinenye Henrietta, the teenage mother allegedly gave birth at home while no one else was present.

It was gathered that the young woman had kept the pregnancy a secret from her family, fearing backlash and possible rejection.

Moments after delivery, she was alleged to have stabbed the baby in the throat before discarding the infant in a nearby gutter.

A young child who witnessed the act reportedly raised an alarm, prompting neighbours to intervene.

Upon tracing the trail back to her home, residents found the teenage mother bleeding and in distress.

Both she and the baby were subsequently rushed to an undisclosed hospital where they are currently receiving treatment.

However, there are conflicting reports surrounding the circumstances of the incident. While some witnesses insist that the stabbing was intentional, others claim it was accidental.

One version suggests the girl may have mistakenly injured the child while attempting to cut the placenta herself, inadvertently slashing both the newborn and herself in the process.
