The Nigeria Police Force in Niger State has arrested a vigilante member, Danladi Baba, and his 16-year-old son, Emmanuel Danladi, following the fatal shooting of a teenage boy in Suleja.
The incident, which occurred in Kwamba area of Suleja, claimed the life of 15-year-old Titus Joseph.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed the development in a statement on Friday, saying the tragic incident happened on March 1 while the two teenagers were playing.
Abiodun explained that Emmanuel allegedly picked up a loaded dane gun belonging to his father, who is a member of a local vigilante group, and accidentally shot his friend at close range.
He said, “On March 1, 2026, at about 6pm, a report was received at Maje Division that one Emmanuel Danladi, 16, of Kwamba-Suleja, was playing with his friend, Titus Joseph, 15, in their house.
“In the course of the play, Emmanuel picked up a loaded dane gun belonging to his father, Danladi Baba, 51, and shot Titus in the stomach at close range, leading to his death.”
The police spokesperson added that operatives from the division immediately moved to the scene after receiving the report.
According to him, the victim’s body was evacuated to the General Hospital in Suleja, while the suspect and his father were arrested.
“The said dane gun was also recovered and both suspects, along with the exhibit, were transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna for further investigation and possible prosecution,” Abiodun said.
The police said the arrest was necessary to determine the level of negligence surrounding the handling and storage of the firearm.
