… 5,000 staff promoted, 1,000 interns offered permanent jobs in Ogun education sector
The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare, professional growth, and ethical standards of teaching and non-teaching staff across public secondary schools in the state.
Chairman of the Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Apostle ‘Biodun Sanyaolu, stated this in Abeokuta while unveiling a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening accountability and excellence in the education sector.
Sanyaolu lauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for his continued investment in education, describing him as “the most teacher-friendly governor” who has made education the “engine of transformation” in the state.
According to him, teachers remain the backbone of the education system, responsible for shaping young minds, inspiring curiosity, and nurturing future generations.
“We thank Prince Dapo Abiodun for his unwavering support for teachers and learners alike. He has not only prioritised education but has made it a major driver of transformation in Ogun State,” he said.
Highlighting some of the achievements under the Abiodun-led administration, Sanyaolu disclosed that about 5,000 teaching and non-teaching staff benefited from the 2023/2024 promotion exercise.
He added that over 2,400 interns under the Ogun TEACh scheme were engaged in a two-year internship programme, out of which more than 1,000 have now been given permanent appointments.
Similarly, 39 Fellows from the Teach for Nigeria collaborative fellowship have been absorbed into the state’s education workforce.
In a move to uphold integrity and accountability within the education system, the TESCOM chairman announced the launch of a whistleblower policy — the first of its kind in the state’s education sector.
He explained that the initiative allows teachers, non-teaching staff, and members of the public to confidentially report unethical practices such as absenteeism, extortion, harassment, and other forms of misconduct.
Reports, he said, can be submitted via a dedicated hotline: 0801 475 78497 (SMS and WhatsApp only).
“The present Board has expanded monitoring activities across schools on a 24-hour basis through the whistleblower initiative, designed to ensure discipline, transparency, and professionalism in our schools,” Sanyaolu stated.
To further drive efficiency and fairness, Sanyaolu revealed that all public secondary schools in Ogun State have been categorised into three performance-based groups to encourage healthy competition among principals and vice principals.
He also disclosed plans to redistribute teachers and non-teaching staff between rural and urban schools to correct existing imbalances and ensure equitable deployment of personnel statewide.
“Our goal is to build a disciplined, efficient, and motivated teaching workforce that will deliver quality education to every child in Ogun State,” he said.
Sanyaolu reiterated that TESCOM remains committed to promoting professional development, capacity building, and partnerships with private organisations to improve digital literacy and enhance teachers’ competencies.
“The future of education rests on the collective strength, support, and unity of stakeholders. TESCOM will continue to pursue excellence, equity, and innovation in the teaching profession,” he assured.
