The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has strongly refuted allegations that it disbursed N325 million to the Adamawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to finance the party’s activities.
The claim, made by the APC Woman Leader in Adamawa State, Mrs. Patricia Yakubu, alleged that TETFund had been paying the party N25 million monthly since October 2023, a sum reportedly used for running party affairs within and outside the state.
In a petition addressed to the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Mrs. Yakubu accused the state party leadership of misappropriating party funds amounting to N500 million.
She alleged that the payments were facilitated through contract sales linked to General Murtala Mohammed College (GMMC), Yola, and the Federal College of Education (FCE), Yola.
“The money is meant for running day-to-day party activities in and outside the state.
“There was this time they collected three months at once totaling ₦75,000,000. Sometimes, these monies are paid through BDCs [Bureau de Change],” Yakubu alleged in the petition.
Responding to the allegations, TETFund, through its Director of Public Affairs, Abdulmumin Oniyangi, described the claims as “preposterous and totally false.”
Oniyangi stated that the allegations lacked any evidence and were a disservice to the nation.
“To further buttress the futility of the allegations, we wish to state in clear terms that General Murtala Mohammed College (GMMC), Yola, where TETFund contracts are alleged to have been sold, is not a beneficiary institution of TETFund,” Oniyangi clarified.
He further noted that while the Federal College of Education (FCE), Yola, is a beneficiary of TETFund, it is solely responsible for engaging its contractors in compliance with TETFund policies.
“The Fund has observed that allegations of this nature, sponsored by desperate individuals, have become the trend in recent times.
However, TETFund remains undeterred in carrying out its statutory mandate, which includes funding for the rehabilitation, restoration, and consolidation of tertiary education in Nigeria,” Oniyangi added.
Oniyangi emphasized that TETFund has consistently upheld its mandate over the years, transitioning from the Education Trust Fund (ETF) to its current form as TETFund, and is committed to its mission under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.
“We advise that detractors get their facts right so as to avoid misleading the public,” he concluded.
