Three suspects have been arrested and arraigned for allegedly assaulting and disarming a female police inspector in Agadagba community, Ondo State.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the suspects — Amos Ajemigi, Tari Ofoezu and Lots Alonge — were apprehended following a swift operation by the Ondo State Police Command after the incident, which occurred while the officer was on official duty.
The victim, Inspector Ige Olayinka, attached to the Okitipupa Area Command, was said to have been attacked while investigating a petition in the community.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abayomi Jimoh, the assailants violently assaulted the officer and forcefully seized her service riot gun alongside personal belongings.
He said the command promptly launched an intelligence-driven manhunt, which led to the arrest of the suspects linked to the attack.
Jimoh described the incident as a direct challenge to constituted authority and a threat to public peace, stressing that the command would not tolerate attacks on its personnel.
“The officer was carrying out her lawful duty when she was attacked by a group of individuals. During the assault, her service rifle and personal items were taken,” he said.
“The command responded immediately by deploying operatives, leading to the arrest of the suspects involved.”
He further disclosed that the suspects have been charged to court and remanded in a correctional facility pending further proceedings.
Reacting, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, condemned the attack, vowing that anyone found culpable in acts of violence against security personnel would face the full weight of the law.
Lawal reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for any form of aggression against law enforcement officers, particularly those carrying out lawful assignments.
The police, however, assured residents of sustained efforts to ensure the safety of officers and the protection of lives and property across the state.
