A Human Rights Journalist has alleged that thugs from a political party have sent agents of the Labour party and People’s Democratic Party away from a polling unit in Ojodu, Lagos.
She told PLATFORMTIMES that the thugs came in a SUV Car causing fear to those who were on the queue at ward 24, polling unit 011.
She explained via a whatsapp voice note that the development has discouraged her and others from exercising their franchise also resulting in low voter turn out in the area due to the operation of the thugs.
“These people chased the Labor Party agent and PDP agent away from the polling unit. They started asking people what their name is and if you mention a Yoruba name they will leave you on the queue but if you mention a non- Yoruba name they will chase you away.
“Thugs of the APC are moving about to canvass vote for their party, one of them saw me and knew I voted for LP in the last election, he told me not vote for LP and I replied that I don’t have any issue with Sanwo-Olu, so he asked if I was voting for them and I replied that yes I will.
“One of them later walked up to me again and said once I cast my vote I should lift up my ballot paper so they can see if I voted for APC, I told him I can’t do that so he said I should do it so they can take my picture and send me money after the voting process, I told him I don’t need money to vote for whoever I want to vote for and he said alright.
“Few minutes later some people came in a SUV car and started shouting that if you are not voting for APC go home, so people started getting scared and left the polling unit.”, she said.
Unconfirmed reports are also coming in of violence in some areas of Lagos state.
