A Nigerian TikTok content creator, popularly known as Mirabel, has retracted her earlier allegation of rape, admitting that she may have hallucinated due to drug use.
Mirabel, whose TikTok handle is @mirab351, had in a viral video alleged that an unidentified man sexually assaulted her at her residence in Ogun State, claiming that the suspect injured her with a blade.
The allegation sparked outrage on social media and prompted widespread reactions, with many Nigerians calling for a thorough investigation.
The Ogun State Police Command had subsequently confirmed that it commenced investigation into the claim. The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed on Thursday that the command was probing the incident.
However, in a fresh development, Mirabel spoke during a live session with social media activist, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, where she recanted her earlier statement.
She admitted that she had been under the influence of drugs and suggested that her initial claims might not have been real.
The retraction has generated fresh reactions online, with some users expressing concern over the impact of unverified allegations, while others called for professional help and support for the content creator.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ogun State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the new claims or clarify the status of its investigation.
The incident has reignited conversations around the responsible use of social media, the dangers of substance abuse, and the implications of false or unverified allegations on individuals and institutions.
