Tinubu Lacks Capacity To Lead Nigeria – Amaechi Blasts President At 60th Birthday

A former Minister of Transportation and two-time Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has launched a blistering attack on President Bola Tinubu, declaring that the President lacks the capacity to lead Nigeria.

Amaechi, who spoke on Saturday at an event to mark his 60th birthday in Abuja, said his decision not to support or vote for Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election was based on the latter’s perceived inability to govern effectively.

“I told Tinubu in Yola, I will not support you; I will not work for you. I did not work for him; I did not vote for him. It was the issue of capacity,” Amaechi declared to a stunned audience.

The former presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) also took a swipe at Nigerians who voted along ethnic and religious lines, saying such sentiments have been weaponised by politicians to the detriment of national development.

“Some of us who are here are also those who vote on an ethnic or religious basis. Innocent, uneducated people are manipulated to vote based on ethnicity and religion — that’s why we are here,” he said.

Amaechi did not stop at criticising voters; he also turned his fire on the political elite, accusing them of using power for personal gain while the masses suffer.

“When we leave here, we go to plot to go and grab power; no Nigerian leader cares for you. You that voted Muslim/Muslim ticket, let the Muslim market come out now,” he said in a direct jab at the ruling APC’s controversial presidential ticket.

In a veiled call for a political realignment, Amaechi hinted at working with opposition forces to unseat the current administration.

“For us in the opposition, if you want us to remove this man, we can remove this man from power. We want to submit to the opposition if the opposition will take us out of this problem,” he added.

Amaechi also condemned the handling of fuel subsidy removal by the Tinubu administration, accusing it of diverting the gains for private enrichment.

“They are weaponising poverty by stealing the money they should have used to build hospitals and schools. The benefit of the fuel subsidy removal is in their pockets,” he alleged.

His remarks come amid growing discontent over the economic hardship and insecurity plaguing the country, with critics accusing the Tinubu administration of failing to fulfil its campaign promises.
