… Vows Nigeria Will Defeat Terrorism
President Bola Tinubu on Monday declared that Nigeria has moved away from the brink of bankruptcy, insisting that the nation’s economy is gradually stabilising under his administration.
The President also stated that state governors no longer rely on bank loans to pay workers’ salaries, describing the development as a sign that the economic reforms initiated by his government were beginning to yield results.
Tinubu spoke while hosting religious and traditional leaders for an interfaith breaking of the fast at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said the country had overcome severe economic challenges that confronted his administration at inception.
He noted that the government’s fiscal and economic reforms were gradually restoring stability and improving the country’s financial outlook.
Tinubu said, “I am just grateful, one person among millions, that I have been given the opportunity to serve. All I can do is promise that I will continue to be faithful in discharging my duty.
“I can report that the economy has turned the corner. It is getting better. Pensioners are gradually getting their relief, and we have saved Nigeria from bankruptcy.”
The President recalled that the situation was daunting when his administration assumed office but maintained that the country had weathered the storm.
“It was very daunting and challenging when we took over. But today, I can say with pride and joy that we have survived. No governor in this country is running around the banks to borrow money to pay the salaries of their workers,” he said.
Tinubu also assured Nigerians that his administration would not allow forces threatening the country’s unity and stability to prevail.
While acknowledging ongoing security challenges, the President said terrorist groups had become increasingly desperate due to intensified military operations against them.
“Yes, we are challenged. The terrorists are very desperate now because they are getting barraged and defeated. They leave trails of blood in their wake.
“But I assure you of one thing: Nigeria will never surrender. We are not discouraged. We are going to win and win well,” he added.
Tinubu commended religious and traditional leaders for their roles in promoting peace, moral values, and unity across communities, urging them to continue supporting efforts to strengthen national stability.
He further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in critical sectors such as agriculture and education, stressing that the goal was to build a safer, more secure and prosperous nation.
The President also urged Nigerians not to lose hope, assuring them that his government remained focused on implementing policies that would deliver sustainable development and improve the welfare of citizens.
