President Bola Tinubu on Sunday held an emergency closed-door meeting with the nation’s service chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, amid rising security concerns and a fresh wave of abductions across northern states.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the meeting, which began in the afternoon, was convened urgently following heightened public anxiety over recent kidnappings and bandit attacks.
Top military and intelligence chiefs in attendance included the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyode; Chief of Army Staff, Major General Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Kelvin Aneke, and Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General E.A.P. Undiendeye.
Also present were the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Tosin Ajayi.
A senior Presidency source confirmed the meeting to PLATFORM TIMES but declined to comment on specific agenda details. However, the source indicated that the discussion “cannot be disconnected from the troubling pattern of abductions and targeted attacks reported across several states in recent weeks.”
Northern communities have witnessed a spike in violent incidents, including attacks on schools, ambushes on security operatives, and mass kidnappings, sparking calls for decisive government action.
Although the Presidency has not issued an official statement, Sunday’s gathering marks the latest in Tinubu’s series of strategic engagements with security chiefs as pressure mounts on the government to curb insecurity and restore public confidence.
Security analysts believe the emergency meeting may lead to a review of operational strategies and deployment patterns, especially in vulnerable border and rural communities increasingly targeted by armed groups.
The outcome of the meeting is expected to be made public after briefings from the National Security Adviser in the coming hours.
