President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that 2025 will usher in renewed hope, aspirations, and economic recovery following the sacrifices made in the past 19 months of his administration.
In his New Year’s message delivered on Wednesday morning, Tinubu acknowledged the challenges Nigerians faced in 2024 but expressed optimism about the year ahead.
“By the grace of God, 2025 will be a year of great promise in which we will fulfill our collective desires.
“Your sacrifices have not been in vain over the past 19 months and will not be in vain in the months ahead,” he said.
The president outlined significant strides made in 2024, including foreign trade surpluses for three consecutive quarters, a rise in foreign reserves, a strengthened Naira, and record growth in the stock market that added trillions of Naira to the national wealth.
However, he acknowledged persisting hardships, particularly the high cost of food and essential drugs.
Tinubu disclosed that his administration is resolute in reducing inflation from its current 34.6% to 15% in 2025. To achieve this, he promised intensified efforts to boost food production and promote local manufacturing of essential medical supplies.
The president also announced plans to establish the National Credit Guarantee Company by the second quarter of 2025.
This initiative, in partnership with key financial institutions and private sector stakeholders, will expand credit access for individuals and businesses, drive re-industrialization, and support underserved groups, including women and youths.
“We will expand risk-sharing instruments for financial institutions to increase confidence in the system and foster economic growth,” Tinubu stated.
Emphasizing the importance of unity and patriotism, the president revealed plans to unveil the National Values Charter in the first quarter of 2025.
This document, approved by the Federal Executive Council, aims to promote shared values, trust, and cooperation between the government and citizens.
“As far-reaching as our reforms are, they can only succeed through shared common values and unconditional love for our country,” he said, adding that a national orientation campaign to inspire patriotism and collaboration among Nigerians will accompany the charter’s launch.
Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to youth inclusion, announcing the launch of a Youth Confab in the first quarter of 2025.
The conference will provide a platform for young Nigerians to contribute to national development, with modalities for selection to be outlined by the Ministry of Youths.
“This confab is a testament to our recognition of youths as nation-builders,” he remarked.
The president called on state governors and local council chairpersons to align with the federal government on emerging opportunities in agriculture, tax reforms, and energy transitions. He commended states adopting compressed natural gas and electric vehicles, promising continued federal support.
“Together, let us seize these opportunities to move our nation forward,” Tinubu urged.
He concluded his address by expressing gratitude for the trust reposed in him as president and assuring Nigerians that his administration remains focused on building a trillion-dollar economy.
“We are on the right path to building a great Nigeria that will work for everyone. Let us not be distracted by those who dwell on politics, ethnicity, or religion,” he said.
The president wished all Nigerians a prosperous New Year, urging them to keep faith in themselves and in the country’s future.
