The governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed rumours that he is desperate  to become the Chief of Staff in the cabinet of President-elect, Sen. Bola Tinubu.

El-Rufai made this statement to reporters in Gombe on Saturday, while reportedly attending the inauguration of the construction of 550 housing units and the Gombe Geographic Information Systems (GOGIS) Service Centre.

According to various reports published in national dailies, El-Rufai has been linked to various government portfolios, but he referred to these reports as ‘mere speculation’.

The governor stressed that his primary concern is to contribute to the development of Nigeria and that there are many other ways to achieve this goal, besides serving in the government.

He further stated that even if he were not in government, he would remain dedicated to the advancement of his country.

In his words, I have not had that discussion with the president-elect and I don’t like to speculate.

“I read in the newspapers all kinds of portfolios assigned to me but you know, I am a committed Nigerian.

“I want to see my country make progress and whatever I can do to contribute to the development of the country, I will do it.

“But, I don’t have to work in the government. Everyone who is working either in the private sector or civil society is contributing.

“There is not just one way to contribute to the country and I will never stop working for Nigeria’s progress.”

El-Rufai expressed confidence that Nigerians would not regret electing Tinubu as president, emphasizing that the country has brighter days ahead under Tinubu’s leadership starting from May 29.
