The world record holder for 100m hurdles,Tobi Amusan, has been nominated for the 2023 Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year award.
Laureus award which was first held in year 2000, is aimed at honouring individuals and teams from the world of sports along with sporting achievements throughout the year under review.
The 25-year-old world hurdles champion is the first Nigerian to be nominated for the award alongside five in a list released by the organisers on Monday via its official website.
Amusan’s other contenders for the breakthrough category are Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan, Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, Scottie Scheffler and Nathan Chen from USA and the Moroccan national team.
The Sportsman of the Year Award has Lionel Messi contesting with Kylian Mbappe, Stephen Curry, Rafael Nadal, Max Verstappen, and Mondo Duplantis for the prize.
