Top Officials Implicated In $6.2m Emefiele Scandal As  Calls Intensified For  Obazee’s Removal

Top officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as well as cabinet members in the former administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, have been  embroiled in a scandal involving a $6.2 million windfall.

The  fund allegedly shared among Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs) by former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele.

According to sources close to the matter, the funds were purportedly withdrawn from the CBN vault under the guise of mobilizing international observers for the 2023 general elections.

However, investigations reveal that the money was clandestinely distributed among officials of the State House, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and other influential figures.

Economic Confidential has learned from reliable sources that many of the beneficiaries of this alleged “loot” have been compelled to return their share following heightened scrutiny by the present administration.

Shocking revelations, including incriminating footage, are expected to surface soon, shedding light on the depths of corruption within the corridors of power.

Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Committee tasked with probing the CBN and recommending Emefiele for prosecution has faced backlash and calls for disbandment from influential quarters.

Chairman of the Committee, Jim Obazee, is reportedly under immense pressure due to his uncompromising stance on the matter, leading to speculation about his imminent removal from office.

Sources familiar with the developments allege that powerful individuals, aggrieved by the Committee’s findings, have urged President Tinubu to sack Obazee and dissolve the committee.

Despite mounting pressure, both the President and Obazee remain steadfast in their commitment to uncovering the truth behind the CBN scandal.

The Committee, established by President Tinubu to strengthen Government Business Entities (GBEs), now finds itself at the center of a political storm, as it delves deeper into the alleged misappropriation of funds during Emefiele’s tenure.

Emefiele, who has been entangled in a web of legal battles since his suspension by President Tinubu, faces multiple charges ranging from abuse of office to forgery.

Recent testimony from Onyeka Ogbu, a deputy director at the bank, implicates Emefiele in the unauthorized disbursement of $6.2 million, purportedly approved by ex-President Buhari and former SGF Boss Mustapha for international election observers.
