A trader at the Sapon Shopping Complex, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Mrs Abioye Oluwakemi, has tendered a public apology to the Iyaloja of Sapon Market, Chief Mrs Florence Mojisola Oni-Quadri, over a protest that followed a court appearance connected to a November 2025 incident.
In a letter dated January 12, 2026, addressed to Chief Oni-Quadri, who is also the Ibuso Aje of Egba Land, Abioye admitted wrongdoing and expressed regret over the conduct of market women who carried placards in protest on her behalf.
The apology followed an incident on November 23, 2025, during which Abioye’s son allegedly used her vehicle to hit the elder brother of the Iyaloja in front of the Sapon Shopping Complex, an issue that later found its way to court.
In the letter made available to PLATFORM TIMES on Monday, Abioye described the protest and her verbal outbursts as inappropriate, saying they did not meet the standards expected of her as a member of the Sapon Market Traders Association.
“I deeply regret my actions, my lapses and my verbal outburst. I understand that my behaviour caused a disruption and a breach of trust, and for that, I am truly sorry,” she wrote.
She assured the Iyaloja and market leadership that the incident was not a true reflection of her character or commitment to the association, adding that she had reflected on the matter and taken steps to prevent a recurrence.
As part of efforts to restore peace, Abioye said she had resolved to lead other market women to tender a public apology, stressing the importance of unity and mutual respect within the market community.
“I value the relationships I have built with you as a sister,” the letter read.
Market sources said the apology was aimed at dousing tension within Sapon Market and restoring cordial relations between the parties involved, following weeks of unease generated by the incident.
