A wedding celebration turned tragic in Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State when one guest died, and the groom was hospitalized following an alleged food poisoning incident.
The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects, including the bride, as investigations into the incident continue.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Shi’isu Adam, disclosed that the incident occurred during the wedding reception.
Preliminary findings suggest the bride and another female accomplice allegedly tampered with the food served to guests, purportedly driven by personal motives.
“We received a report that the bride had tainted the food served at the wedding reception, leaving the groom critically ill. One guest has been confirmed dead, while others who consumed the food have been treated and discharged,” Adam said.
The suspects are in custody and undergoing interrogation by the Criminal Investigation Department.
“The command is thoroughly investigating the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event. We assure the public that justice will be served,” Adam added.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the bride’s actions may have stemmed from a vendetta, though the police have yet to confirm this motive officially.
The incident has left the community in shock, with residents calling for a swift and transparent investigation. Authorities have urged calm as they work to uncover the facts.
