In a heartbreaking turn of events, the Nasarawa State University community is grappling with the devastating loss of Maikeffi Redemption Sarah, a 21-year-old

A100-level Microbiology undergraduate. Sarah, the fourth and last born of her family, reportedly took her own life, succumbing to the grips of deep emotions and depression.

The somber incident unfolded on Friday evening at an off-campus lodge near the Family and Friends Hotel area, just opposite Nasarawa State University, Keffi.

It is reported that Sarah ingested a poisonous substance, leaving behind a void that friends, family, and the university community are struggling to comprehend.

News of Sarah’s untimely death was confirmed by her male friend, who took to Facebook to share the tragic news.

He revealed, “We spoke with her Thursday evening, and she was to come to Akwanga from Keffi, attend a wedding today Saturday, then go back tomorrow Sunday, just for me to hear of her sudden death.”

The revelation sent shockwaves through social circles, shedding light on the silent struggles Sarah may have been facing.

Despite the desperate attempts of some students and neighbors to save her using palm oil, their efforts proved futile.

The lifeless body of the young student now rests in the mortuary in Keffi, leaving behind a community in mourning.

A relative of the deceased took to Facebook to announce that Sarah would be laid to rest on Saturday in Akwanga, her country home.

The news of her sudden demise has sparked conversations surrounding mental health within academic institutions and the need for increased awareness and support for students battling depression.

The university authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the tragic incident.
