A 400-level Accounting student at Gombe State University (GSU), identified as Abubakar Muhammad Adam, collapsed and tragically passed away while taking his final examination.
The incident, which sent shockwaves through the university community, unfolded during an accounting exam, leaving students and faculty in a state of disbelief.
The heartbreaking news was initially shared via social media by Adam’s distressed classmates.
The message, which quickly circulated throughout the university, read: “This is to inform you that Abubakar Muhd Adam, male, with registration number UG18/ASAC/1113 at 400 LEVEL, Accounting Department, was rushed to the university clinic this morning during accounting exams.
Unfortunately, he passed away at the school clinic.
He was later taken to the specialist hospital mortuary along with the university ambulance driver, representative of the university clinic, University Deputy CSO, SRC VP, and some of his friends.”
The statement went on to reveal that Adam’s uncle, who served as his sole guardian in Gombe, had joined them at the mortuary.
Notably, his uncle holds the position of headmaster at Kamara Primary School, Bolari in Gombe.
Tragically, Adam’s father, who resides in Jos, was informed of the devastating news and was on his way to Gombe for the funeral.
An anonymous university official confirmed that Adam was declared dead upon arrival at the university clinic.
The university is working closely with the family to make the necessary arrangements for his burial, which is expected to take place tomorrow.
The Gombe State Police, however, remained unaware of the incident. ASP Mahid Mua’zu, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), stated that the police had not been officially briefed about the Gombe State University student’s untimely death.
He assured the public that the police would respond promptly to any official communication regarding the matter.
This tragic incident has cast a pall of sorrow over Gombe State University, leaving students and faculty in mourning as they grapple with the loss of a promising young student.
