In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded in Ojodu Abiodun, located in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, a building owned by the Ayanshina family collapsed during a downpour, resulting in the tragic loss of two sisters.
The incident, which occurred due to a mudslide triggered by heavy rainfall, left the family in mourning.
The victims, 16-year-old Suliyat and her 25-year-old elder sister, Nofisat, were trapped within the building as the downpour began.
Neighbours rushed to their aid, but it took precious time to free the sisters, who were both injured and trapped beneath the debris.
Once rescued, the injured siblings were immediately transported to the nearby Tomade Hospital in Ojodu Abiodun for urgent medical attention.
An eyewitness, who preferred to remain anonymous, shared the community’s collective shock and efforts to rescue the victims.
He stated, “The sisters were inside the house when the incident happened. We all jointly made efforts to rescue them from the wreckage. We immediately took them to the hospital. It’s so sad that we lost them.”
Following the incident’s report to the police, the family insisted on conducting the burial of the deceased sisters in accordance with Islamic rites.
Ogun State Public Relations Officer, Odutola Omolola, confirmed the tragedy and the family’s decision for an immediate burial.
