Yoruba actor and filmmaker, Murphy Afolabi, has passed away at the age of 49.

The news of his death was confirmed on Sunday by fellow filmmakers Seun Olaiya and Abdullahi Abdulrasaq.

It was gathered that Afolabi fell in the bathroom of his house in Ikorodu, Lagos, on Sunday morning.

Olaiya expressed his shock at the news, saying “I swear to God just before the news, I was still hailing him, this is really a rude shock to me.”

Showbiz personality and convener of the Best of Nollywood Awards, Seun Oloketuyi, also confirmed the news, adding “It is true. He passed away after taking a fall in his bathroom at his house in Ikorodu this morning.”

Afolabi was a prominent figure in the Yoruba movie industry, with over 60 movie credits to his name.

He was born on May 5, 1974, and got into the industry in 2001 after graduating from Ire Polytechnic, Osun State. Some of his notable film credits include ‘Ifa Olokun’, ‘Omowunmi’, ‘Jimi Bendel’, ‘Wasila Coded’, ‘Olokiki Oru’, and ‘Idera’.

Following news of his passing, fellow Yoruba actors took to social media to express their condolences to the family of the deceased.

The cause of death has not been officially confirmed.
