A disturbing incident unfolded in Edo State, resulting in the arrest of a 21-year-old man, Salami Anedu, for the alleged killing of his wife during a heated argument over food.

This shocking episode underscores the devastating consequences of a domestic dispute gone terribly wrong.

The arrest of Salami Anedu came to light as he was paraded alongside other individuals apprehended for their alleged involvement in various criminal activities within the state.

The Edo State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwanbuzor, shared details of the unfortunate incident that transpired on August 30.

According to SP Nwanbuzor, the genesis of this tragic event occurred on August 29 when one Aluaye Momoh reported to the police that a dispute between Salami Anedu and his wife, Esther Friday, both 21 years old, escalated to a fatal outcome.

The incident took place within the confines of their residence in Ugbekpe Community, Edo State, and centered around a disagreement regarding family matters.

During the altercation, the suspect, Salami Anedu, allegedly employed a wooden stick as a weapon, striking his wife during the course of their argument. Tragically, Esther Friday succumbed to her injuries, marking a heart-wrenching conclusion to their dispute.

The police swiftly responded to the report and apprehended the suspect at the scene.

Esther Friday’s lifeless body was conveyed to Fugar General Hospital mortuary for the necessary procedures.

In light of the gravity of the situation, the case has been transferred to the homicide section of the state criminal investigation department, Benin, for a thorough and discreet investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

In an interview with journalists, Salami Anedu provided his account of the events that unfolded.

He explained that the dispute with his wife erupted when she refused to allow him to partake in the meal she had prepared, insisting that he should prepare his own food.

As tensions escalated, the situation took a grave turn when Esther Friday threatened to bring her brothers to confront him. Subsequently, her brothers arrived armed with sticks, resulting in a physical altercation.

Salami Anedu, in his defense, emphasized that he did not use a wooden stick against his wife and asserted that it was her brothers who brought the sticks.

He denied any involvement in her tragic death, revealing that his wife had been unwell prior to the altercation.

This heart-wrenching incident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of peaceful conflict resolution within domestic settings and highlights the need for authorities to thoroughly investigate such cases to ensure justice is served.
