In Anambra, a heart-wrenching accident unfolded on Friday as a truck’s container toppled onto a bus, leading to the loss of five lives and leaving four individuals injured.

Anambra, Nigeria – A dreadful incident shook the state of Anambra on Friday when a truck’s container fell onto a bus, resulting in the tragic loss of five lives and causing injuries to four others.

The incident occurred at Odumodu junction near Nteje along the bustling Awka-Onitsha expressway in Anambra State, creating a scene of devastation.

The accident, which took place around 7:30 am, involved two vehicles: a Mistibushi L300 bus with registration number XE245AWK and a commercial Daf/Leyland truck with registration number T-19094LA.

According to an eyewitness, both vehicles were en route to Awka and Onitsha, respectively, when they collided at the junction.

“The two vehicles arrived at the spot simultaneously. Due to the weight of the container being transported by the truck, it toppled onto the bus, resulting in the tragic loss of five passengers and leaving others with severe injuries,” the eyewitness stated.

Adeoye Irelewuyi, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the collision and attributed its cause to a failed portion of the road.

In his statement, Irelewuyi expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and extended his prayers for the swift recovery of the injured victims. He also urged motorists to exercise caution and remain vigilant while driving.

He reported, “Ten individuals, including three male adults and seven female adults, were involved in the crash, with five female adults losing their lives.”

“FRSC’s rescue team from RS5.33 Nteje promptly transported the injured victims to Divine Care Hospital in Umunya for medical attention, while the deceased victims were taken to Chira Hospital for confirmation by medical professionals before being transferred to the New Jerusalem Mortuary in Nteje.”

“As of the latest update, the Sector Commander, in collaboration with the Unit Commander in Nteje, is diligently working to clear the road obstruction caused by the tragic accident.”

This improved headline and news story provide a more informative and compassionate account of the tragic accident in Anambra.
