An unidentified trailer driver reportedly experienced a lone accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway bridge, situated between Berger, Lagos State, and Isheri, Ogun State.
The incident unfolded as the front part of the trailer crashed into the bridge, leaving it hanging precariously off the edge.
The mishap, which occurred early on Saturday morning, remains under investigation, and the cause has yet to be determined.
Upon visiting the accident scene, it was observed that personnel from the Nigerian Police Force and the Federal Road Safety Corps were present to ensure the free flow of traffic and safeguard lives and properties.
An anonymous source disclosed that the driver fell off the bridge due to the accident.
However, details regarding the whereabouts of the driver and the existence of casualties are yet to be ascertained.
A police officer at the scene, commenting on preliminary investigations, stated, “We got here about 10 minutes ago (8:00 am) and we heard that the driver fell off the bridge.
That is the information we have at hand now. We are yet to ascertain what caused the accident, and we have no information on the whereabouts of the driver, neither can we confirm yet if there were casualties.”
Efforts to gather information from eyewitnesses proved unsuccessful, as no one was willing to comment on the cause of the accident, the location of the driver, or potential casualties.
This incident follows two separate crashes on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on New Year’s Day, where two individuals lost their lives, and 10 others sustained injuries.
One of the crashes occurred around Isara Remo, leading to the death of two passengers and injuries to three others.
The injured victims received medical attention at Victory Hospital Ogere, while the deceased were deposited at the Isara General Hospital morgue.
