In a significant development, the Plateau Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has firmly upheld the election victory of Caleb Mutfwang, solidifying his position as the Governor of Plateau State.

This decision comes as a dismissal of the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Mutfwang, who hails from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The tribunal’s ruling, which reinforces the validity of the PDP’s congress in the state, has underscored that the issues surrounding nomination and sponsorship of a candidate fall squarely within the realm of pre-election matters.

NAN’s reports highlight that the APC and its candidate, Nentawe Yilwatda, had vigorously contested the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) declaration of Mutfwang as the winner of the March 18, 2023 poll.

On March 20, 2023, Prof. Idris Amali, the INEC Returning Officer in Plateau State, officially announced Mutfwang’s victory, with a total of 525,299 votes, while Yilwatda secured 481,370 votes.

These results signify the PDP’s triumph in 10 local government areas, including Barkin Ladi, Bassa, Lantang North, Langtang South, Riyom, Mikang, Mangu, Jos East, Qua’an Pan, and Pokkos.
