Tribunal Will Return Our Stolen Mandate – Edo PDP

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed confidence that the state’s governorship election petition tribunal will restore what it described as its “stolen mandate.”

Speaking in Benin City on Monday, the acting chairman of the party, Tony Azeigbemi, stated that the PDP had presented watertight evidence before the tribunal to prove that the September 21, 2024, election was manipulated in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“For the past three months that Governor Monday Okpebholo and the APC have held sway, Edo people have experienced hardship, sufferings, and insecurity,” Azeigbemi told journalists.

He maintained that the PDP had submitted substantial documentary proof at the tribunal, which he claimed exposed irregularities in the election.

“So, having adopted our final written addresses and presented watertight evidence, we are confident that the tribunal will right the wrong and return the mandate which Edo people duly gave to our party and its candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo,” he said.

Reacting to remarks by APC leaders, including the party’s acting chairman, Jarret Tenabe, and former governor Adams Oshiomhole, who alleged that the PDP merely dumped documents at the tribunal without presenting enough witnesses, Azeigbemi dismissed their comments as baseless.

“The APC leadership lacks the acumen to read and understand our petition. It is the members of the tribunal who possess the expertise and acumen to thoroughly examine and understand our case, not the APC leadership,” he stated.

The PDP’s petition challenges the victory of Governor Okpebholo, who was declared winner of the election under the APC platform. The tribunal is expected to deliver its judgment in the coming weeks.
