Troops of the Joint Military Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, have foiled multiple attacks in Plateau State, arresting two suspects and killing three others in separate operations across the state.
The military disclosed that the operations were carried out in Jos North and Wase Local Government Areas following intelligence reports and distress calls from residents.
The Media Information Officer of the task force, Captain Chinonso Oteh, in a statement on Friday, said troops responded swiftly to security breaches, preventing further destruction and loss of lives.
He explained that in Dutse Uku community of Jos North, soldiers acted on a distress call reporting sporadic gunfire around 11:45pm.
According to him, the troops intercepted two suspects disguised as security operatives, clad in black tactical uniforms, while allegedly setting houses ablaze and inciting violence.
“The impostors were caught in the act of arson and orchestrating violence within the community. Our vigilant troops acted swiftly to prevent further destruction and ensure the safety of residents,” Oteh said.
He added that the suspects were immediately arrested, while two other individuals who sustained gunshot injuries during the incident were receiving medical treatment.
In a separate operation in Karem, Wase Local Government Area, the task force neutralised three suspected terrorists during an attempt to infiltrate the community.
Oteh noted that the successes were part of ongoing counter-terrorism offensives aimed at restoring peace in troubled parts of Plateau State.
He said the operations were backed by the deployment of specialised units to strengthen security architecture and respond rapidly to emerging threats.
The military spokesperson urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely information on suspicious movements.
“Through sustained collaboration with the public and ongoing strategic offensives, we are committed to restoring lasting peace and order,” he added.
The latest operations come amid heightened security concerns in Plateau State following a series of deadly attacks in recent weeks.
On March 29, gunmen reportedly invaded Gari Ya Waye in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North, killing no fewer than 28 residents in what the state governor, Caleb Mutfwang, described as a senseless assault on innocent citizens.
Several injured victims from the attack were subsequently treated at the Jos University Teaching Hospital.
Despite repeated assurances by authorities, residents have continued to express fears over persistent violence in parts of the state.
