The Defence Headquarters on Thursday said troops of the Armed Forces neutralised several terrorists, arrested 85 criminal suspects and rescued 66 kidnap victims during joint operations across the country in August.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, disclosed this in Abuja while briefing journalists on the military’s operational activities.
According to him, the feats were recorded across all theatres of operation, with troops recovering large caches of arms, ammunition, vehicles, motorcycles and explosives.
“In the North-East, under Operation Hadin Kai, troops eliminated scores of Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters, arrested 15 suspects – including 13 collaborators, a gunrunner and a drug peddler – and rescued eight kidnapped victims,” Kangye said.
He explained that in the North-West, troops sustained aggressive offensives in Zamfara, Sokoto, Kaduna, Kebbi and Katsina states, killing several terrorists, apprehending 23 suspects and freeing 24 kidnap victims.
Kangye added that troops of Operation Enduring Peace in the North Central killed terrorists, arrested seven criminals and rescued two victims, while a suspect was intercepted with ₦3 million ransom cash in Bassa Local Government Area.
In the North Central axis, particularly Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba, Kogi and the Federal Capital Territory, he said troops of Operation Whirl Stroke arrested nine extremists and rescued 13 hostages.
He stressed that the military had intensified operations to restore peace in troubled regions and protect citizens from terrorist threats.
“During the month under review, troops have continued to intensify joint operations aimed at neutralizing threats to national security, restoring stability, and safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians,” Kangye stated.
The Defence Headquarters reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the pressure on criminal elements until peace is fully restored across the country.
