Nigerian troops successfully rescued a former Provost of the Federal College of Education (FCE) in Gusau,Dr. Hassan Abubakar Augie, and his son after a fierce gun-battle with bandits in Zamfara.

The victims were rescued  on Friday, by   troops from Sector 1 Operation Hadarin Daji, stationed at Forward Operating Base Mada in Zamfara state, who  were conducting a routine patrol along the Shemori – Yandoto road in the Marke general area.

According to a statement released by the Army headquarters on their Facebook page, the troops unexpectedly encountered an unspecified number of heavily armed bandits during their patrol.

A fierce and prolonged firefight ensued, with the troops exhibiting remarkable fire superiority.

Ultimately, the bandits were compelled to flee in disarray, seeking refuge in the forested terrain nearby.

Responding swiftly to the situation, the Operation Hadarin Daji troops pursued the retreating bandits into the dense forest.

As a result, they were able to liberate two civilians who had been in the clutches of the bandits.

Among these rescued individuals were Dr. Hassan Abubakar Augie, the former Provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical) in Gusau, and his son.

Initial investigations into the incident revealed that the victims had been abducted from their residence by the armed bandits the previous night.

However, thanks to the timely intervention of the troops, the captives were freed from their captors before any harm could befall them.

In the wake of their successful operation, the Army expressed that the joyous reunion of Dr. Hassan Abubakar Augie and his son with their families was a triumphant moment.

Meanwhile, the troops have redoubled their efforts in maintaining an active and vigilant presence in the area, ensuring the safety and security of the region.

The incident serves as a testament to the Nigerian troops’ unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and well-being of citizens in the face of adversity.

The rescue operation showcased their remarkable courage, determination, and effectiveness in countering criminal elements, while also highlighting the importance of proactive military measures in the ongoing battle against banditry in Zamfara and beyond.
