Former President Donald Trump, in a dramatic address during his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States, credited divine intervention for saving his life during an assassination attempt.
Trump, who made history by becoming the first U.S. president to serve non-consecutive terms since Grover Cleveland, declared that his survival was a sign of his purpose to restore America’s greatness.
Addressing a crowd on January 20, 2025, Trump said, “Those who wish to stop our cause have tried to take my freedom and indeed to take my life.Just a few months ago, in a beautiful Pennsylvania field, an assassin’s bullet ripped through my ear, but I felt then and believe even more so now that my life was saved for a reason.”
Pausing for emphasis, he added, “I was saved by God to make America great again.”
The remarks come as Trump returns to the White House amidst polarized opinions on his leadership and policies. His reference to surviving an assassination attempt highlights the intense challenges faced during his political career.
The incident in Pennsylvania, where Trump narrowly escaped a fatal attack, had sparked nationwide attention and renewed debates over the safety of public officials. His narrative of divine protection aligns with the themes of resilience and destiny that have defined his campaign rhetoric.
