Kano State was on Wednesday thrown into deep mourning following the sudden deaths of two serving members of the State House of Assembly, who reportedly passed away within minutes of each other.
The lawmakers are Sarki Aliyu Daneji, who represented Kano Municipal Local Government Area, and Aminu Sa’adu, the lawmaker for Ungoggo Local Government Area.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that news of Sa’adu’s death broke first, sending shockwaves through the Assembly and across the state.
Barely minutes later, Daneji was also confirmed dead, compounding the grief and disbelief among colleagues, government officials and residents.
The death of Daneji was officially confirmed by the spokesperson to the Kano State Governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who announced the development in a post on his verified Facebook page.
Although details surrounding the circumstances of their deaths were still sketchy as of press time, sources at the Assembly described the incident as “devastating,” noting that both lawmakers were active and influential members of the House.
The near-simultaneous deaths triggered an outpouring of condolences from lawmakers, political leaders and members of the public, many of whom described the loss as a huge blow to legislative activities in the state.
Both men were said to be deeply involved in constituency representation and committee work, making their sudden passing a significant loss to their respective constituencies and the Kano State legislature.
