Two suspected kidnappers, Nathan Cletus (35) and Oscar Williams (38) have been ordered by a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday to be detained in prison for allegedly attempting to kidnap two women.
The defendants, who live in Kaduna’s millennium city, were charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and attempted kidnapping.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, did not allow the suspects to enter a plea due to lack of jurisdiction.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that Emmanuel instructed the police to return the case file to the Kaduna State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The matter was adjourned until May 15th for mention.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Chidi Leo, informed the court that on February 20th at approximately 1 p.m., the defendants and others tried to kidnap two women on Maraba Rido Road.
Leo said the defendants were driving a black Honda car with the registration number AZM 511 GK.
He said, “The defendants offered the women a ride while they were waiting for a commercial vehicle, but when the women refused, they attempted to force them into the car.
“The women screamed for help, and the defendants were apprehended while the others fled.”
“The offense violated sections 412 and 516 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State.” He added
