Two minors sustained gunshot wounds following a violent clash between secondary school students and local youths in the Suleja area of Niger State.

The altercation, which reportedly began over a dispute involving girlfriends, escalated into a full-blown confrontation, leading to the arrest of six suspects.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, involved students of Annur Islamic Model School, Chaichainiya, and youths from the Zuma Bread area in Suleja Local Government Area.

Witnesses said the fight erupted when more than 20 youths, led by an SSS 3 student, Umar Idris, stormed the area armed with dangerous weapons.

Amid the chaos, gunshots were fired, hitting two minors, aged 10 and 11, in the thigh. Residents raised an alarm, prompting the swift intervention of security operatives.

Policemen, in collaboration with local vigilantes, responded to a distress call and managed to restore order.

The injured victims were rushed to Suleja General Hospital for treatment, while six suspects were apprehended. Police authorities confirmed the arrests and stated that investigations were ongoing to identify and apprehend other students involved in the violence.

Security analysts have warned that the rising trend of student-related violence could pose a serious threat to public safety if not urgently addressed.

Authorities have urged school managements and community leaders to intensify efforts in curbing youth restiveness and gang-related activities.
