Two teenagers have lost their lives after drowning in a stream at Hayin Yawa Gada in the Tudun Wada Local Government Area of Kano State.
The tragic incident, which occurred around 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2025, was confirmed by the Kano State Fire Service. The agency also announced the recovery of another unidentified body from a well in the Jaba Masaka area of the state.
Spokesperson for the Fire Service, Saminu Yusif, said the Tudun Wada Fire Station’s Emergency Response Unit received a distress call from the Hisbah Command about a drowning incident.
“On arrival, our men found two boys, identified as Habu Sani and Haruna Isah, both aged about 15, who had gone to swim in the stream. They were rescued unconscious and later confirmed dead,” Yusif said.
The remains of the victims were handed over to Inspector Usaini Iliya of the Tudun Wada Police Division for further investigation.
In a separate incident, the Fire Service also recovered a decomposing body from a well at Jaba Masaka, Shago Tara area, around 8:15 a.m. on Friday, October 10, after receiving a report from the P&G Kwalli Police Division.
“Eyewitnesses said the body had been in the well for about four days before it was discovered. The remains were handed over to the Ward Head of the area, Ado Idris,” Yusif added.
While commiserating with the affected families, the Director of the Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, appealed to parents and guardians to caution their children against swimming in streams, ponds, or any other water bodies, especially during the rainy season.
He also urged community leaders to intensify public awareness on water safety to prevent similar tragedies in the state.
