The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has appointed Nigerian tech and social entrepreneur, Zephia Ovia-Ikem, as a UNICEF NextGen Champion, a role that will see her mobilize private sector leaders and innovators to advance the rights and wellbeing of children and young people across Nigeria.
Announcing the appointment, Wafaa Saeed, UNICEF Representative in Nigeria, said Ovia-Ikem joins a global network of investors, philanthropists, and private sector leaders working to accelerate progress for children and youth.
Ovia-Ikem, known for her active support of Generation Unlimited Nigeria (GenU 9JA) since its launch, will spearhead advocacy and partnerships aimed at improving access to education, innovation, and economic opportunities for Nigerian youths.
“Children and youths in Nigeria represent our greatest asset and brightest future,” Ovia-Ikem said.
“I am passionate about working alongside UNICEF to mobilize resources, networks, and commitments that will ensure every child and youth in Nigeria can thrive and have access to sustainable pathways for better economic opportunities.”
As a NextGen Champion, Ovia-Ikem is expected to leverage her influence within the business and tech communities to amplify UNICEF’s initiatives, create awareness, and mobilize resources for child-focused development programs nationwide.
UNICEF’s NextGen initiative is a global community of emerging leaders who use their expertise and networks to drive impact in areas such as education, health, climate resilience, and digital innovation.
Members have contributed to emergency responses and long-term social investments that empower young people worldwide.
UNICEF reiterated its commitment to partnering with advocates like Ovia-Ikem to ensure that every child—especially those most vulnerable—has access to the opportunities needed to reach their full potential.
