In a historic ceremony on Tuesday,November 21, 2023, Ms. Celine Lafoucriere, Chief of UNICEF Lagos Office, joined by dignitaries including Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, celebrated the inauguration of a cutting-edge oxygen plant.

This facility promises to revolutionize healthcare for thousands of newborns and pregnant women grappling with pneumonia and hypoxemia disorders in Ogun State.

The newly inaugurated oxygen plant holds immense significance, acting as a lifeline in treating respiratory illnesses and supporting critical medical procedures.

Anticipated to reduce pneumonia-related mortality by an impressive 35%, this breakthrough is a beacon of hope for those facing the harsh reality of limited access to life-saving oxygen, especially in critical situations such as severe COVID-19 symptoms.

Ms. Lafoucriere, brimming with excitement, extended heartfelt congratulations to the Honorable Commissioner for Health, Tomi Coker, whose unwavering commitment, she said paved the way for the transformative initiative.

The collaboration with esteemed partners, IHS Towers and the Canadian Government, reflects a shared dedication to advancing healthcare provisions and sustainable development goals in Nigeria.

Emphasizing the ultimate goal, Ms. Lafoucriere stated that UNICEF is committed to creating a Nigeria where no child succumbs to preventable causes like pneumonia and hypoxemia disorders.

The organization remains resolute in working with governments at all levels to ensure that quality healthcare is not only accessible but also affordable for every mother and child.

With the oxygen plant now operational, Ogun State stands as a symbol of progress and commitment to the well-being of its residents.

The facility marks a monumental leap forward in healthcare infrastructure, reinforcing the vision of a healthier and more resilient Ogun State.
