The Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim Graduates’ Association (UNIFEMGA) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Olu of Epe, His Royal Majesty, Oba Shefiu Adewale, who died on Saturday, May 31, 2025.
In a condolence message signed by the association’s National President, Engr. Mohammad Buari, and made available to PLATFORM TIMES, UNIFEMGA described the monarch’s death as a rude shock, noting his remarkable legacy as a leader, peacemaker, and advocate for community development.
The group, in its message, offered heartfelt condolences to the Epe community, the Lagos State Council of Obas, and the wider Muslim Ummah, describing Oba Adewale as “a father, leader, and bridge-builder whose life was dedicated to service, peace, and communal progress.”
Oba Adewale, a devout Muslim and proud alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, was also a former executive of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), OAU chapter, where he served as Publicity Secretary between 1969 and 1971.
UNIFEMGA noted that the late monarch’s leadership journey—from the student union to the royal stool—was a testament to his humility, discipline, and unwavering commitment to the service of humanity.
“We pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) overlooks his shortcomings, accepts his good deeds, and admits him into Al-Jannatul Firdaus,” the statement read in part.
The association also prayed for strength and fortitude for the royal family, the Epe community, and all who were touched by the monarch’s life and leadership.
Oba Shefiu Adewale’s demise marks the end of a significant era in the history of Epe Kingdom, with tributes pouring in from across religious and cultural divides in honour of his impactful reign.
