Unilorin Alumni Association Demands Certificate Withdrawal of Ex-President, Fasakin For Misconduct

The University of Ilorin Alumni Association has urged the management of the institution to revoke the academic certificate of its former National President, Dr. Wale Fashakin, accusing him of impersonation and unethical conduct.

The current President of the Association, while addressing the issue, alleged that Dr. Fashakin had continued to parade himself as the National President despite the expiration of his tenure.

He also criticized Fashakin for attempting to exploit the Alumni Association for personal gain.

“The academic certificate issued by the University of Ilorin is a testament to both learning and good character,” the President stated.

“Anyone who acts contrary to this standard is not a good ambassador of the university.Globally, ambassadors are recalled when their behavior falls short, and this case is no exception.”

He further lamented the alleged misuse of the Association’s platform, describing it as a deliberate attempt to treat the Alumni as an Automated Teller Machine.

“All he is doing is turning the Alumni into an ATM. Even the last Zoom meeting he organized attracted only 12 participants, yet he made exaggerated claims in the media afterward,” he said.

The President reiterated that the Alumni Association is governed by a constitution, emphasizing that the leadership tenure is limited to four years.

He decried Dr. Fashakin’s continued claims to the presidency, describing it as “an aberration” and “criminal.”

“The Alumni office is not a family affair or a chieftaincy title. When you have served your tenure and an interim leadership has taken over, it is unacceptable to keep parading yourself as the National President. This is misinformation at its peak,” he remarked.

Calling for decisive action from the University of Ilorin management, the President said, “The institution has the authority to withdraw certificates of graduates who fail to represent it well. If this is what it takes to address the problem of misinformation and uphold the ethics of the university, then the management should act accordingly.”

The President concluded by emphasizing the need for alumni members to embody the values of the university.

“The certificate issued by the university stands for good character and learning. If any individual proves deficient in either, they are unfit to hold the institution’s certificate,” he stated.

Efforts to reach Dr. Wale Fashakin for his response to the allegations were unsuccessful as of press time.
