Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), issued a stern warning, emphasizing that every Nigerian would suffer if the nation were to plunge into crisis.

During a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja by the Forum of Former Deputy Governors, scheduled for their National Summit on October 21, Akume stressed the importance of unity and peace to realize the prosperity promised by President Bola Tinubu’s policies.

The visit, led by its Chairman, Dr. Chris Akomas, a former deputy governor of Abia State, saw Akume assuring the forum of the commitment of the Tinubu-led federal government to ushering in a better Nigeria.

He underlined that the nation’s progress hinges on the collective embrace of peace and unity, transcending political affiliations.

Akume expressed appreciation for the forum’s longstanding contributions to the unity and development of the nation, saying, “We must be united always, like it is popularly said our strength lies in our diversity. And it is very true.”

Highlighting the significance of the forum and its influential leadership, the SGF emphasized, “This forum has come to existence, and it will continue to remain relevant due to the caliber of people you have and your quality of leadership.”

Furthermore, Akume pledged the government’s readiness to collaborate with the Forum’s upcoming event to ensure its success.

He stated, “We will partner with you, on October 21. I will be able to stay with you and listen to what you have, and together we will be able to come out with ideas that would be useful to move Nigeria forward.

If there is prosperity, we will all benefit, and if there is a crisis, all of us will be victims. I want this forum to play a significant role in the unity and stability of our dear country.”

Chairman of the Forum, Akomas, revealed that the group’s primary objective is to enhance cordial relationships between stakeholders for the stability of all states in the federation.

He further explained that the National Summit would facilitate interactions between stakeholders and serving deputy governors, enabling them to explore strategies for the states’ development, ultimately benefiting the central government.

“The focus is on unity, peace, and progress of the nation, and our major goal is the people’s interest,” Akomas concluded.

As the nation grapples with the imperative of unity and peace, Senator Akume’s message underscores the critical role every Nigerian plays in securing the promise of a more prosperous future for the country.

The call for collaboration and harmony transcends political boundaries and emphasizes the importance of national solidarity.
