The United Premier Movement (UPM) has congratulated traditional religious worshippers and cultural ambassadors across Yorubaland and Egbaland as they prepare to mark the 2025 Isese Day on Wednesday, August 20.
In a goodwill message signed by its convener, Hon. (Chief) Olalekan Shoyinka, popularly known as Ayinla Egba, the movement described Isese Day as more than a festival, noting that it represents the spirituality, resilience, and identity of the Yoruba people.
According to Shoyinka, the annual celebration serves as a reminder of the rich cultural values of the Yoruba nation and provides an opportunity for thanksgiving and reflection.
“Isese Day is a sacred reminder of the spirituality, resilience, and identity that bind us together as Yoruba. It is a moment to honour the Òrìṣà, uphold the wisdom of our forebears, and renew our collective commitment to sustaining traditions that give us pride of place among nations of the world,” the statement read in part.
He commended traditional religious leaders and cultural custodians for their dedication to preserving Yoruba heritage despite the pressure of modern influences, stressing that their efforts have ensured that “Ìṣẹ̀ṣe l’agbà – tradition is supreme – remains unbroken and vibrant.”
Shoyinka further prayed for peace, unity, and prosperity for Yorubaland and the entire nation as devotees embark on the annual spiritual journey to Oke-Abola.
The UPM, a socio-political and cultural group, also reaffirmed its solidarity with Yoruba sons and daughters committed to cultural preservation while stressing its resolve to pursue political, social, and economic renewal across the region.
“May the spirit of our ancestors bless this generation and those yet unborn,” Shoyinka added.
