The United States Consulate in Nigeria has partnered with the Ogun State Government and GFA Technologies to unveil the ‘Window on America’ project — an ICT-focused initiative aimed at equipping Nigerian youths with entrepreneurial, technological, and leadership skills.

The centre, located at the Ogun Tech Hub on Kobape Road, Abeokuta, was commissioned by the Acting Consular General of the United States, JoEllen Gorg, who described the initiative as “a symbol of what is possible through strong and innovative leadership.”

Gorg said the project is part of a growing network of 29 American Spaces across Nigeria and marks the second of its kind in Ogun State.

According to her, the centre is designed to serve as an inclusive platform that connects young Nigerians to global knowledge resources, technological innovation, and intercultural exchange.

“This space is not just a building. It’s an opportunity hub. It offers fast internet, modern computers, thousands of books — both physical and digital — and access to billions of academic articles, dissertations, and e-library resources,” Gorg stated.

She urged students, entrepreneurs, creatives, and teachers to maximise the platform, assuring them of the U.S. government’s continued support for youth empowerment and innovation in Nigeria.

In his remarks, Governor Dapo Abiodun hailed the initiative as a landmark collaboration between the state government, GFA Technologies, and the U.S. Mission in Nigeria.

He emphasised the importance of ICT in shaping the future of the Nigerian workforce.

“The establishment of the American Window at the Ogun Tech Hub is more than just a facility — it is a vision in motion. A dynamic space where global ideals meet local ambitions,” Abiodun said.

The governor added that the hub was designed to bridge the gap between young Nigerians and global opportunities, serving as a platform for digital literacy, innovation, knowledge exchange, and collaboration.

“We understand the transformative power of digital innovation in driving sustainable economic growth, job creation, and improved quality of life.

That is why our administration has made strategic investments in fibre optic infrastructure, innovation clusters, and digital skill development across the state,” Abiodun noted.

He described the facility as a testament to his government’s commitment to collaboration over competition, and to fostering a digital future where Ogun youths can compete globally.

Speaking at the event, CEO of GFA Technologies, Debo Omololu, revealed that the company had invested over N400 million into its operations in Ogun State, employing more than 1,000 software engineers at its centre.

He encouraged youths in the state to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the hub, stressing that digital skills will remain crucial in the job market of the future.

Earlier in the day, the Acting Consular General paid a courtesy visit to Governor Abiodun at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, where both parties reaffirmed their commitment to promoting youth empowerment and deepening U.S.-Nigeria bilateral relations through technology and education.

The ‘Window on America’ space is expected to run free programmes including digital literacy workshops, English conversation clubs, cultural engagements, and discussions on global issues, while also providing access to American-authored books and multimedia resources.
